Hopefully everyone has recovered by now from the Memorial Day long weekend festivities and is looking forward to what is in store this weekend. This weekend seems to be offering a great variety of networking opportunities and to jump start career goals.
Friday, Saturday, & Sunday: Startup Weekend Detroit for Social Entrepreneurs – You might be sitting on a great idea or business plan but haven’t been able to find the right resources or people to help you make it a reality. This weekend, the Ford Resource & Engagement Center will be hosting an exciting event for entrepreneurs looking for guidance from a business perspective as much as the technical. The Startup Weekend Detroit gathering will be going on all weekend and will give you the chance to meet engineers, coders, marketers, PR individuals, and a great chance to propose your idea to a large group of people. Tickets are still being sold here, so be sure to check out the info and what is going to be offered to all participants!
Friday: Bambooze at the Beach – Once a month the kind folks of Bamboo Detroit, encourage fellow Detroit innovators, creators, and entrepreneurs to join in on drinks at the Campus Martius Beach Bar. Have a chance to let loose and talk among peers like yourself at this event, and enjoy the fine cuisine offered at Fountain Bistro located on Campus Martius. No formal attire required here, just a great attitude and spirit to rejoice the end of the month.
Saturday: Detroit Speaks / Michael Stone-Richards – This Saturday a new feature by DETROIT SPEAKS will be going on at the MOCAD. This edition will be hosted by Michael Stone-Richards, a curator of Liberal Arts, College for Creative Studies in Detroit where he teaches Critical Theory and Visual Studies. If you are a student looking to expand your knowledge and meet individuals working to establish a foundation in the Art world then this is a must attend event. Known for his publications in English and French on the history of contemporary art practices, Michael is also the founding editor of “Detroit Research.” He will speak about the emerging practices in Detroit, including Social Practice, Post-Studio, Dance, and much more. Be sure to keep this on your list!
Saturday: Pure Detroit Downtown Skyscraper Tour – Pure Detroit is hosting a tour through a few of Detroit’s most famous skyscrapers including the Guardian Building, the Penobscot Building, the First National Building as well as the grandest GM Renaissance Center. The tour will be presented by one of Detroit’s urban planners, Michael Boettcher. The tour will begin at 1pm at the Guardian Building and will go on for about 60 to 80 minutes. Sunday: Build x Repair Spring Block Party – Repair The World: Detroit and Build Institute are coming together to host an open-house styled event with great party favors, food, and music. This workshop is going to include a Human-sized Jenga set, the Detroit Party Marching Band, and a 25-foot long chalkboard wall. This event doesn’t have a certain formality and will be all about having a great time and networking with other like-minded individuals. Also, the great folks of Detroit Kombucha Brewing Co. will be giving away some free samples of their homemade komucha. It’s a block party, and it’s free.
