If you’re still picking candy corn out of your teeth from last weekend’s Halloween festivities, then it’s time to finish the job and saddle up for another weekend in Metro Detroit.
We’ve been blessed with some outrageous weather this week and the weekend is still looking pretty good, so don’t waste the chance to enjoy life one last time before we’re smacked in the face by winter’s icy glove.
Art For The Holidays: First Grabs Friday — 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. — Detroit
Halloween always mark the launch of the holiday season. It seems that no sooner has the last mini pack of jelly bellies been wiped clean, we’re catapulted into a 2 month fervor of Turkey, gravy, hometown bar reunions, and highly stressful shopping situations.
While most of these outcomes are unavoidable during the holidays, you can at least avoid the painful hunt for gifts by getting a jump start on your shopping at the Detroit artists market this Friday. A favorite Detroit art and shopping destination, each year, the Detroit Artists Market transforms the gallery into a fun, energetic gift market featuring more than 140 area artists.
The wide range of original art at Art For The Holidays includes paintings, jewelry, metal, photography, books, cards, glass, ceramics, fibers and much more. Art For The Holidays shoppers and collectors will enjoy browsing the unique gifts for friends and family, all while supporting the thriving and vital Detroit arts community.
The event runs from 5 until 9 p.m. this Friday and is free to attend. For more information and to RSVP, click here.
$5 Day At The Henry Ford Museum — 9:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m. — Dearborn
On Saturday, visit one of the area’s best museums, the Henry Ford, as they partner with the Ford Foundation Arts Assist program to present a very special $5 day.
That’s right, for just $5 you get admission to the Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, a tour of the Ford Rouge Factory, or an IMAX movie. The one-day-only event is being held to recognize the historic decision by Henry Ford to offer workers a wage of $5 per day in 1914, which played a major role in building America’s middle class.
If you choose to enjoy more than one option you’ll still pay just 5 bucks, and special discounts apply for children under the age of 4 as well.

Homies Detroit Fundraiser and Health Fair — Sunday — Detroit
On Sunday, join the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program and Homies Detroit for their Round Two fundraiser. With the holidays right around the corner, this event is the perfect opportunity to get in the habit of some good health practices that may help you withstand the onslaught of stuffing and pumpkin pie that’s coming your way.
Guests will enjoy an afternoon featuring eight different yoga and wellness workshops lead by local experts, as well as a slow-flow yoga program lead by internationally renowned yoga instructor Michael McCarthy of Blue Yoga. After a collective state of Zen has been reached by the crowd, local vendors will provide a selection of food, drinks and merchandise during the event.
Proceeds from the event will help support the efforts of the Downtown Boxing Gym — a nonprofit that develops good citizenship in urban youth through a demanding boxing program in addition to strong academic support and a connection to the community through volunteering.
