Do you know someone who works tirelessly to make our neighborhoods a better place to live? Perhaps it’s the small business owner who faithfully volunteers at a community center, or maybe it’s a real estate developer whose ultimate goal is to make neighborhoods safer.
It’s time to celebrate these neighborhood heroes.
The Detroit Community Development Awards are right around the corner, and they’re a great way to thank our neighborhood heroes. If you know a hero or heroic organization that deserves recognition, download the Detroit Community Development Award nomination packet and get started.
Nominations are due September 1, 2015, so don’t put them off.
This year, nine awards will be given in the areas of
- Real estate development
- Placemaking
- Economic development
- Community safety
- Individual leadership
Awardees are chosen by an independent panel of community development stakeholders. Detroiters will get a say in the process through a People’s Choice Award, which will decide the tenth awardee.
“The Detroit Community Development Awards is an opportunity to applaud the accomplishments of hard-working residents and organizations that are rebuilding our neighborhoods,” said Tahirih Ziegler, Executive Director of Detroit LISC. “It’s also inspirational for everyone in the audience as they witness the power of everyday people to affect change and create the urban vitality that can only come from our neighborhoods.”
The awards ceremony will take place at Cobo Hall on October 28, 2015. The event will be hosted by Detroit Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) and Community Development Advocates of Detroit (CDAD).
