Turns out, Metro Detroiters like their Meijer delivered. So much so that the delivery company that services the Michigan-based store chain is hiring 200 more shoppers to keep up with the rapid growth and demand since launch.
If you’re not in the loop, recently Meijer and Shipt teamed up to start on-demand grocery service on September 15 and hired 300 shoppers prior to that launch. Although exact numbers aren’t available, it seems the project has been a success.
According to the company, shoppers are able to set their own schedule through the app which allows them to select orders that work with their daily routine. Shipt offers flexibility to shoppers, who can either work as much or as little as their schedule permits.
“Our community of shoppers is critical to Shipt’s success in each city. They bring a smile to our members’ faces each day and simplify their lives through the convenience of grocery delivery,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. “Since our launch last week, the demand for Shipt grocery delivery from Meijer continues to increase. It is a very exciting time to join the Shipt team in Detroit.”
Shipt is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day and currently at 25 designated Meijer stores in metro Detroit with 55,000 items available.
The service costs customer a membership fee of $99 a year, or $14 a month and all the stuff you buy is ordered through their Shipt app. If your order is less than $35, there’s a $7 delivery fee, and orders $35 or more have delivery fee. Most deliveries, according to the company and important if you take the gig, are made within an hour.
Here’s what you need to get to work. Shipt shoppers must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation and a current driver’s license. There’s a background check and screening process. To apply, visit Shipt.com and select “Get Paid to Shop.”
