Chicago and Detroit have a unique relationship. We are similar in many ways, and in others, we are definitely not. And in some areas, like sports, we’re bitter rivals.
Both cities lost something near a million people since the 1950’s. That said, Chicago still has 2.6 million people as of 2010 where Detroit’s was down to just north of 700,000 (and now, even less). Whereas since 2010 Detroit’s population has continued to drop, the city of Chicago has actually grown. Detroit’s 139 square miles is nearly 100 smaller than Chicago’s 234, yet they have an extensive mass transit system.
There is also a lot of talk about the perception of Detroit as of late. Not to mention, it’s super easy to get trapped in the blog bubble here. We were looking to get past that. So on a recent trip to the Windy City, we hit the streets and asked people.. what do you think of Detroit?
Above is what we found, talking to anybody who would talk to us. Some of it’s serious and some of it is downright funny. Whatever your opinion of us, thanks Chicago for being such a great host.
But one more thing. To the last guy in the video? We have to say he’s definitely got it all wrong.
