After a couple weeks of temps near zero, we always like to joke that when the temperature approaches 30 degrees, it’s what we call a Motor City heat wave. So lets look on the bright side that we may get such a heat wave this weekend, which would give us all more gumption to go check out these awesome events! That’s right, there is a wide variety of things going on in Detroit this weekend and we’ve got you set up for a good time- here’s your City 5.
Friday the 27th – The Streetlight Series At The Elizabeth Theater In The Park Bar – This is a casual event designed to bring new Detroit independent film projects directly to an audience, and to promote the local independent music scene. There will be film screenings in various categories, and live music performances by Garbage Tornado, F. Patrick James, and Sick. at an intimate venue above the Park Bar, one of our favorite local haunts. The event begins at 7:00 pm. Advance tickets are $10 / $15 at the door.
Saturday the 28th – How To Survive A Zombie Apocalypse – This is an outdoor event in Grosse Pointe Farms where you will learn in a fun, lighthearted way some important basic ways to survive a real disaster. You’ll learn about how survive in a disaster such as a major storm or flood, as well as archery techniques, water purification, building a fire and finding shelter. The event is at 9pm or 2pm. Cost is $40.00 per person plus a $20.00 materials fee.
Saturday the 28th – Dance Party At Donovan’s – Donovans is a great little dive bar and a good place to have a few drinks, get loose, and laugh. This Saturday, you can do all that plus dance anyway you that makes you feel good. The staff at Donovan’s are serious about good music so expect good tunes and a rockin’ time. Cost is $3.
Sunday the 1st – Om @ the Max – For yogis of all skill levels… This looks like a super cool opportunity to enjoy a Sunday morning yoga class to the sounds of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Percussion Session. Check your stress at the door and get into the vibe. Cost is $25.
Sunday the 1st – Sundaylicious: Katoi @ Motor City Wine – This is the foodie pick for the week. The pop-up Katoi, by chef Brad Greenill, which has been appearing around Detroit and making waves in the local food scene, is hosting a one-night engagement at Motor City Wine. The menu looks excellent, with plenty of veg options, and the atmosphere should be fun as well. The event begins at 5pm and lasts until supplies run out. Contact Motor City Wine for more details.
