I’m sure most of you are going to be busy hitting up the apple orchards or picking out pumpkins, just don’t forget that there are a ton of great events happening around Detroit this weekend.

City Year Detroit Fundraiser and Comedy Show
Looking for something fun to do on Friday night?
The Ant Hall will be hosting a comedy show that is also a fundraiser for City Year Detroit.
I am a giant supporter of City Year Detroit. The City Year Corps members go into underperforming schools in Detroit and provide additional support for students and teachers. The work that they do help students do better in school.
There will be live comedy sets from Tanner Oliver, Camila Bellario, Justin O’Leary, Darnell Anderson, Jim Eliot, and Diego Attanasio.
Tickets to the show are $20 per person. All proceeds raised will go towards the work that City Year Detroit does.
When: Friday, October 5 from 7:30 p.m. — 10 p.m. Cocktail hour starts at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m.

Detroit Folk Festival
This Saturday is the Detroit Folk Festival outside of the Old Miami in Midtown.
I listen to all kinds of music, but I really love folk music. There is something about singer and songwriters that speak to me in an emotional level.
Some of Detroit’s best folk artists will be performing at this event.
I highly recommend seeing Libby DeCamp. I really love her music and had a chance to see her live at TEDxDetroit last week. She is great.
Tickets for the event are $7 and can be purchased in advance here, 50% of proceeds will be donated to InsideOut Literary Arts.

Danielle’s Sunday Brunch
Now that autumn has returned the Two Way Inn will be hosting Danielle’s Sunday Brunch, starting this Sunday. Huzzah!
This weekend they will be serving up homemade biscuits and gravy, hash browns, loaded eggs, cold bar and a Bloody Mary Bar.
Just writing about brunch is making me really hungry.
Heed my warning, get there early because the food will run out. Then you’ll have to wait until November for First Sunday Brunch.

Open Streets Detroit
This Sunday is Open Streets Detroit Southwest.
We have covered Open Streets Detroit a lot here at Daily Detroit. There’s a good reason for it. It’s really great. It gives people an opportunity to get out of their cars and explore an area that we just zoom on by everyday.
There will be plenty of things to do at Open Streets including; live music, exercise classes, ultimate frisbee, hip-hop and street dancing, tennis, food, and so much more.
Also, don’t forget to stop into all of the small businesses that are located in the area.
This year’s route will start at Third Street and Michigan Avenue in Corktown, through Roosevelt Park to Vernor Highway where it will continue into Mexicantown and Clark Park.
When: Sunday, October 7 from 12 p.m. — 5 p.m.

P.S. Just a little tip, MoGo Bikes will be waving its $8 daily pass fee for people who want to ride a bike on Sunday. Here’s the small print, you can ride for up to a maximum of 30 minutes at a time before being charged. But you can dock a bike before the 30 minutes are up and check out a new bike with out being charged.
Sister Pie Cookbook event at Folk
I have been anxiously awaiting for Lisa Ludwinski’s new Sister Pie; The Recipes and Stories of a Big Hearted Bakery in Detroit cookbook to be released. Sven went over to Sister Pie to talk with Lisa about her book a few months ago.
The book officially came out on Tuesday, so she is doing a ton of book events in the next few months.
On Sunday night Devita Davidson the Director of FoodLab Detroit will be moderating a discussion with Lisa about “The importance of Sisterhood in Small Business.”
The event will take place at Folk in Corktown. We all know how much I love Folk and Sister Pie … so there was no question that this event was going to be featured here this week.
Tickets are $45 and include a signed Sister Pie cookbook, wine pours and nibbles, you can purchase them here. You can also get tickets that do not include the book for $20 by going into Folk or calling them at 313-290-5849.
